Basic Obedience &
Manners Program
(For all dogs 1 year and older)

6 weeks - Basic Obedience Class

Puppy Kindergarten classes are followed by our Basic Obedience classes. Your puppy will learn the basics of responding to "sit, down, stay, and come" commands. We'll also help them to learn heeling while incorporating all the commands.

I will also discuss various household behavior issues such as jumping, barking, biting, chewing, and housebreaking. This program is fun and educational for you and your dog. The only requirement is that your dog has to be at least one-year-old to be admitted to this class.

This program is very helpful for those who adopt adult dogs from shelters or rescues and are looking for guidance on their basic behavior.

Please Bring the Following to Class

  • Treats: Make sure to carry soft treats that motivate your dog. These are also available in our store.
  • Treat Pouch: This helps in keeping treats at your waist while keeping your hands free.
  • Collar and Leash: Bring a six-foot leash, preferably leather (retractable leashes not allowed) and the collar your dog normally wears on walks. The trainer will recommend another collar, if needed. You can purchase training collars and leashes in our store.
  • Family Members: Children over the age of eight and other members of the household who are interested in learning and willing to participate in training are welcome to come to class. Only one person at a time will work with your dog. Children must not disrupt the class. If you cannot expect this of your child, please don’t bring him or her to class so as not to disrupt others.
  • Your Dog: We recommend not feeding your pet right before class. You should also make sure he or she has a chance to potty prior to arriving for class. If you can work off some excess excitement with exercise before class, it is helpful.

Trainer Jeremy A. Pell

Welcome to obedience training.  I would be honored to have the opportunity to work with you and your dog. My family and I have two dogs, Phoebe,
a 9-year-old Standard Poodle, and Lexie, a 4-year-old Dachshund mix.

Phoebe and Lexie are members of our family and I hope to help you make your dog as enjoyable for your family as ours are for us. I've been teaching for 13 years as both an assistant and lead trainer. My Doberman Pinscher, Jasmine, and I earned our first obedience title, CD, and her Canine Good Citizen certification before she passed away in 2005.

My goal in obedience training is to have an enjoyable experience working with the dogs and to help make them well-mannered members of the family. I believe in taking a gentle approach to training so that we teach our dogs what is expected of them.

In class, we will learn to use positive reinforcement, body language, voice tone, and consistent words and commands to teach your dog. Outside of the dog obedience world, I have been a firefighter for 24 years and am glad to call Center Grove home. My wife, Lori, and I have two boys: Carter and Hayden.
